Description
Glazed Kielbasa Bites are a sweet, tangy, and irresistibly savory appetizer that’s perfect for parties, game days, potlucks, holiday gatherings, or anytime you need a crowd-pleasing snack. Thick slices of beef kielbasa are coated in a rich glaze made from dark brown sugar, yellow mustard, vinegar, and black pepper, then simmered until the sauce becomes glossy, sticky, and beautifully caramelized. The result is a mouthwatering combination of smoky sausage, sweet caramel notes, and a slight tang that keeps everyone reaching for more. Served warm with tortilla chips or toothpicks for easy snacking, these kielbasa bites are simple to prepare yet packed with bold flavor.
Ingredients
For the Kielbasa
- 2 packages beef kielbasa
- Black pepper, to taste
For the Sweet & Tangy Glaze
- 1 bag dark brown sugar (about 2 cups)
- 1 bottle yellow mustard (approximately 12 ounces)
- 1 bottle white vinegar (approximately 1 cup)
For Serving
- 1 bag tortilla chips
- Toothpicks (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Kielbasa
Slice the beef kielbasa into rounds approximately ½-inch thick. Try to keep the slices uniform in size so they cook evenly.
Step 2: Arrange in Pan
Place the sliced kielbasa into a large skillet, sauté pan, or rectangular baking pan suitable for stovetop cooking.
Step 3: Make the Glaze
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the dark brown sugar, yellow mustard, white vinegar, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly until a thick, smooth glaze forms. The mixture should be rich and slightly syrupy.
Step 4: Coat the Kielbasa
Pour the prepared glaze over the kielbasa slices. Toss gently until every piece is evenly coated with the sweet and tangy mixture.
Step 5: Simmer
Place the pan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer while stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Step 6: Caramelize
Continue cooking for 10–12 minutes. As the glaze heats, it will thicken and become glossy. Stir occasionally, ensuring all slices remain coated. Allow some of the kielbasa edges to brown slightly for extra flavor.
Step 7: Finish
Once the glaze has reduced and become sticky, caramelized, and bubbly, remove the pan from the heat.
Step 8: Serve
Transfer the glazed kielbasa bites to a serving bowl. Insert toothpicks if desired and arrange tortilla chips around the bowl for serving. Enjoy while warm.
Tips
- Use a nonstick skillet for easier cleanup.
- Stir occasionally rather than constantly to encourage caramelization.
- For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few drops of hot sauce.
- Keep the bites warm in a slow cooker on the “warm” setting during parties.
- Slice the kielbasa evenly to ensure consistent cooking.
Notes
- The glaze will continue to thicken slightly as it cools.
- If the glaze becomes too thick during cooking, add a tablespoon or two of water.
- Beef kielbasa provides a smoky flavor, but turkey or pork kielbasa can also be used.
- These bites are best served warm but remain delicious at room temperature.
