Ingredients
For the Chicken
- 1½ lbs (680g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp coriander
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
For the Tzatziki Sauce
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- ½ cucumber, grated and squeezed dry
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill
- Salt and pepper to taste
For Assembly
- 4 Greek pita breads or flatbreads
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 large tomato, diced
- ½ red onion, thinly sliced
- ½ cucumber, sliced
- Crumbled feta cheese (optional)
- Fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, paprika, cumin, coriander, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken and coat thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 8 hours.
Step 2: Make the Tzatziki
Combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, dill, salt, and pepper. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Step 3: Grill the Chicken
Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 5–6 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing into thin strips.
Step 4: Warm the Pita
Heat each pita for about 20–30 seconds on the grill or in a skillet until soft and warm.
Step 5: Assemble the Wraps
Spread a generous layer of tzatziki over each pita. Add lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, sliced grilled chicken, and feta cheese if desired.
Step 6: Wrap and Serve
Fold the sides inward and roll tightly. Serve immediately with fries, roasted potatoes, or a fresh Greek salad.
Tips
- Chicken thighs stay juicier than chicken breasts.
- Marinating overnight produces even more flavor.
- Add olives or pickled onions for an authentic Greek touch.
- For a spicy version, drizzle with hot sauce or add sliced jalapeños.
Storage
- Store grilled chicken in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Tzatziki keeps refrigerated for 3–4 days.
- Assemble wraps just before serving to keep the vegetables crisp.
